Foley Questions Dog Republican Rep. John Sweeney, (NY 20th)
The Mark Foley alcoholic Republican pedophile predator scandal has shed a new and harsh light on the behavior of another Republican Congressman, U.S. Rep. John Sweeney, R-Clifton Park, NY, who was photographed drunk and swearing at a frat house party on April 22 of this year. Republican Congressman John Foley was turned away from the congressional page dorm on Capitol Hill after arriving there intoxicated one night. [ http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,216846,00.html ]
Might U.S. Rep. John Sweeney, R-Clifton Park, NY also be a pedophilic alcoholic, like Republican Rep. Mark Foley of Florida? Or was there another reason for him to be drunk and embracing young male college students at a college frat house that is outside of his Congressional district on April 22nd, while students smoked marijuana in the Congressman's presence?
Some students said the Congressman was "inquisitive and engaging, while also acting openly intoxicated" during his late-night visit to the all-male frat house. Although some students were embraced, none reported being verbally hit upon. So far, no photographs have surfaced of the Congressman kissing, fondling or otherwise sexually engaging with the young men of the frat house.
[ http://www.concordy.com/... ] Of course, it's not a crime to be gay and U.S. Rep. John Sweeney, R-Clifton Park, NY's sexual preference should be respected, whatever it is, as long as it doesn't involve pursuing under-aged college frat boys into their frat-house when they are drunk and unable to defend themselves.
The guy in the tie is Republican Congressman John Sweeney, from New York's 20th district, rated as "Likely Republican" by Charlie Cook. According to the student newspaper at Union College, Sweeney was acting "openly intoxicated", and was "sometimes even using profanity". Now, I don't have a problem personally with Congressmen drinking (responsibly) or cursing, and I hope all these college kids are 21. But, this probably isn't the image Sweeney would want to portray. A reasonably serious campaign against him could get some mileage out of photos like that. [ http://casualsoapbox.blogspot.com/... ]
Sweeney's Deputy Chief of Staff, Melissa Carlson, said today she has nothing more to say about this incident other than what she told the paper, which was:
"As a committed representative of the people throughout the area where he lives and works, he enjoyed the discussion he shared with the students from Union College. (Sweeney) was impressed with the energy and enthusiasm displayed by the students - particularly on a Friday evening."
Union College, which is in Schenectady, is not in Sweeney's district. It's in the 21st CD, which is represented by U.S. Rep. Mike McNulty, a Democrat. A Union student who worked for McNulty is quoted in The Concordy story saying she told Sweeney about her connection to his fellow congressman and he was "very rude" about it.

Was Congressman Sweeney
also molested by a priest when he was a teenager, like Congressman Foley? The Congressman's got his arms around two young college kids, who may have no idea what the Congressman's underlying intentions are, in attending a drunken frat party in a district that he does not represent.
"John Sweeney, the Albany-area Republican who should be a shoo-in, seems intent on losing his race against Kirsten Gillibrand," said Ben Smith of the New York Daily News. [
http://blogs.nydailynews.com/... ] ""It was reported that one student approached the Congressman with drug paraphernalia and asked to take a picture."
Did the Congressman report the use of marijuana to the police, or was he too drunk to notice that a felony was being committed? Said one college sophomore, Doug Richardson, who did not attend the party,
"I think that it can be a very harmful career decision seeing how there was underage drinking going on at the party," "Furthermore I think that congressmen, in general, should have a certain amount of respect for their position in our country's government and drinking with students at a college fraternity party is not the best way to display that respect." This hasn't been the Congressman's only potential involvement with risqué sexual behavior. "Rep. Mark Sweeney (R-N.Y.) has proudly accepted a $1,000 contribution from a strip-club owner." [

Maybe the Congressman himself doesn't know why he is engaging in this outrageous behavior. Voters ought to consider whether this incident shows that the Congressman is lacking in the judgment that recent events show Congressmen really need to exercise.
Because if this Congressman isn't simply lacking in basic judgment, then there may be something much more sinister that he should own up to.
