Some folks around here may be aware that I wrote a few books even before I was lucky enough to co-author the
Kosmos science book with Darksyde. While I've written a large number of articles, my real love is for fiction. I've done kid's books, westerns, mysteries, science fiction, and fantasy. At last count, I'd written 32 books, 31 of which were actually sold and published (one was so odd even my agent just went "huh?").
I've also taught fiction writing at a local college, though since I don't have a degree in English, I was never able to get more than the token creative writing course.
This diary is a "feeler." I wanted to raise a little flag and see if there's an interest in having a regular writing workshop.
For almost twenty years, I've been a member of a local writer's group. We're a fairly unique group in that only one member had made any significant sales before joining the group. At least count, the seven of us were responsible for more than sixty published novels. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if we were closing on a hundred. And we've at least twice that number in short stories. I won't name drop, but I'll say that several members have had much more successful careers than mine.
Between my teaching experience and my experience with the group, I think I have a different idea for how a writing workshop should be approached than most of the operations I've seen -- online or off. I've also seen several folks on Kos who were clearly interested in writing, and who posted on how they were working through writing challenges, or struggling to get that first book out the door.
So... raise your hand if your interested. If we can gather up enough people to reach critical mass, I'll put together some preliminary notes and get started.
