The news we have all been waiting for. The release of new poll results and Regal's (Goldmark's beautiful horse) run to Washington, D.C. Great news on both fronts. More below
First- from the campaign
Thanks to your strong support, we reached our 3rd Quarter fundraising goal of $700,000. Peter's horse, Regal, crossed the finish line last Saturday, and just kept on galloping. Now it seems that Regal is headed off on an even greater mission -she seems determined to make it all the way across the country to Washington, DC!!
Our goal is $1 million by Election Day. Cathy McMorris has already raised more than that, thanks to her lobbyist buddies and contributions from the industries for whom she cuts sweetheart deals in Congress. It's ordinary Washingtonians - working families, farmers, people like you and me - who are supporting Peter Goldmark's campaign, because when Peter goes to Congress it will be our voices that he'll be listening to, rather than the special interests in Washington, DC.
The populist Goldmark campaign has raised over $750,000 to date
That's $80,000 ahead of schedule! The populist Goldmark campaign has outraised the rubber stamping opponent two periods in a row!
The Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee has made this an officially targeted campaign because fundraising has been so strong!
And The Other BIG news
New polling results show Peter Goldmark gaining on his opponent freshman rubber stamper incumbent Cathy Ann McMorris
Rodgers.
The new numbers from a recent poll show the Goldmark race within 7 points of the incumbent!
Recent polling data in Washington's 5th Congressional District
Date: October 6, 2006
A Lake Research Partners survey1of likely voters in Washington's 5th District shows Republican Cathy McMorris vulnerable to a challenge from Democrat Peter Goldmark. With enough resources to communicate Goldmark's strong messages, inform voters about McMorris' voting record, and drive home the potent contrast between Goldmark's priorities and Cathy McMorris' special interest agenda, this seat is winnable.
* Goldmark's aggressive campaign has cut the margin to 7 points, with 38% supporting Goldmark and 45% supporting McMorris.
McMorris remains stuck well below 50% of the vote despite her incumbency and name recognition advantage.* McMorris' job performance rating is 13 points net negative.
Just 37% rate McMorris' job rating as good or excellent versus fully half (50%) who say it is just fair or poor, for a net negative job performance rating (-13).
These findings are based on 350 completed interviews with a random sample of likely November 2006 voters.
Interviews were conducted from September 13-17, 2006.
Sampling error is +/- 5.2%. The party identification of respondents was 38%Republican, 30% Democrat, 27% Independent.
The first of the Goldmark /McMorris debates happened Oct 5 and was live blogged on kos and can be seen, though McMorris didn't really want it to be, at khq.
The incredibly hard work is paying off. We can do this. We can send McMorris back to her fruit stand. She is part of this disgusting leadership-one of the "rising stars". She was happy to have Hastert here in 2004 to help raise money for her. John Boehner was out here with her not long ago. And we can't forget her lovely visit with Dick Cheney in the Marie Antoinette room at the Davenport here in Spokane. Keep Regal moving forward here.
