In a thread to my diary yesterday, the conversation revolved around what I would do with additional money in order to help defeat John Shimkus and bring accountability and honesty back to the US House of Representatives from IL-19.
I have noted previously that without the attention garnered from the Mark Foley scandal, the campaign for IL-19 would have continued as a grassroots effort with fundraising efforts mainly supplanting limited mailings, small newspaper ads, newsletter production and yard sign purchase and distribution.
These grassroots efforts are still very vital to IL-19. In a district where the incumbent (Shimkus) repeatedly has refused to have a debate with me, I have no choice but to continue to spread my message in a town-by-town and precinct-by-precinct manner. I must spread my message of positive change.
Back to the matter at hand: The finances of my campaign are MARKEDLY better than they were several weeks ago. I am continuing to devise a plan to better spread my message and to keep my name at the forefront of the political headlines. Here is my continuing plan (to be supplemented by additional fundraising and donations).
1. Television exposure: To this point, my singular television commercial has been locally produced and shown only on cable television. The cost of production of multiple commercials and the cost of distributing the commercial to larger network audiences in St. Louis, Springfield, Evansville, IN, and so forth have been limiting. Ideally, I would like to produce multiple commercials that detail John Shimkus as a pure politician who has not voted in the interests of Southern Illinois, nor provided proper investigation and oversight to the Foley scandal, oil and gas gouging, and the mismanaged war in Iraq. I would like to show these commercials on larger media outlets.
2. Schedule rallies in large and small cities across the district. IL-19 is still a very rural district where I believe the populace wants to see their elected officials and ask them questions first-hand. These rallies may not always be packed with a strong Democratic Party base, but the only way I can win this election is by listening to and responding to all citizens of IL-19. I believe I can represent Democrats, Independents, and many Republicans very effectively.
3. Produce additional mailing material for distribution and door-to-door discussions.
4. Your ideas?
And never fear, I will continue to debate the EMPTY CHAIR that John Shimkus has repeatedly left behind by not debating me.
Shimkus and the Foley-gate Republicans gave our campaign its voice. Now it is time for our words to be spoken and heard.
