"Politically speaking, is it to our advantage or is it a drawback to either call for or to have Hastert resign before the elections?"
Think Progress shows a new CNN poll that 52% of Americans think Hastert should resign. While there is no doubt in my mind that Hastert is part of an elaborate cover-up to keep Foley under wraps till after the election and should be hog tied and force to spend a day with the crew of "Queer Eye for the Straight Guy" the question for me is this:
"Politically speaking, is it to our advantage or is it a drawback to either call for or to have Hastert resign before the elections?"
IMO, I know this takes the Iraq war and impeachment off the "front page", but it continues to paint the Republicans in a poor light and as colossal hypocrites. I believe the longer Hastert remains an embroiled figure in this scandal the poorer the House leadership under Denny looks and the more likely two things will happen: a) People will vote Democratic and b) would-be-Republicans that would usually turn out and vote will not do so in disgust. Political tactic? Yes. Necessary to help ensure a Democratic majority in 2007? Absolutely!
Thoughts? Opinions?
