NYTimes/CBS poll: Bush has 34% approval; 83% think he's "hiding something or mostly lying" about Iraq
If only 17% think he is telling the truth about Iraq, how does he rate more than a 17% approval rating? Do the balance of that 17% approve of being lied to?
Mr. Bush's job approval has slipped to 34 percent, one of the lowest levels of his presidency, posing a complication for the White House as it seeks to send him out on the road to rally base voters. Mr. Bush's job approval rating has even slipped with his base: 75 percent of conservative Republicans approve of the way he has handled his job, compared with 96 percent in November 2004.
Mr. Bush clearly faces constraints as he seeks to address the public concerns about Iraq that have shrouded this midterm election: 83 percent of respondents thought that Mr. Bush was either hiding something or mostly lying when he discussed how the war in Iraq was going.

So, it's out there for anyone to see, by the numbers posted yesterday.
34% of Americans, all of whom represent the conservative Republican base, still think the Chimp is doing "a heckuva job", or more likely still telling pollsters that they approve of his job performance. No one polls the likelihood of lying poll responders, but I assume there's 34% of Americans that are either delusional or lying.
The number that bothers me is this: 83% think he is "hiding something or mostly lying" about Iraq. Let that number sink in for a minute.
The number is staggering. Half (50%)of the electorate voted for Bush, in round numbers. (Excluding the Diebold 5% fudge factor) That 83% number means that more than half of those foolish enough to vote for him now think he lied about Iraq.
Presidents get impeached for lying, right?
President Clinton was impeached when only 27% thought he should be impeached for his "crime".
83% of Americans agree on something. Does that mean that the next candidate that runs on a platform promising to hold the current administration responsible for the lies that killed 2700 Americans will win with 83% of the vote?
Well, I can hope and dream, can't I?
