I had the great pleasure of seeing Democratic Congressional candidate Steve Harrison debate Vito Fossella last night on Staten Island's very Republican South Shore. If you've ever had any fantasies about sending your own "Mr. Smith" to Washington, now is the time to rally around Steve Harrison.
You may think that a Democratic candidate has a snowball's chance in hell in someplace like Staten Island and Bay Ridge -- but I'm here to tell you you're wrong. Interest was so high for last night's debate that the church hall was filled to capacity, and throngs of people were outside the building literally pressed up against the windows to hear what the two candidates had to say. Mr. Harrison had 3/4 of the crowd standing and cheering on their feet with his rousing defense of the Constitution -- unlike Vito Fossella, who actually said that it was ok to disregard the Constitution in a time of terror because "the Constitution is not a suicide pact." Harrison unequivocally says NO to torture, NO to warrantless wiretapping, and NO to the unchecked power of the executive branch.
But you don't have to believe me -- go see Steve Harrison for yourself.

Please don't be turned off by the low-budget website - this is a truly populist campaign that is gaining momentum by the hour. Rumor has it that a recent internal poll has Fossella leading by just 3 points, with speculation being that this is why he reluctantly agreed to debate Harrison. With $$$ and volunteers, we can turn the race for NY-13 into a major upset.
Isn't it time we turned ALL of New York City blue?
