Via TPM, CNN
is reporting that he is going to finally talk.
WASHINGTON (CNN) -- Jeff Trandahl, the former House clerk who oversaw the House Page Program, is expected to break his silence Tuesday on the Foley page scandal, according to a colleague familiar with the media's interest in the case.
As clerk, Trandahl oversaw the page program at the same time then-Rep. Mark Foley, R-Florida, was having sexually explicit conversations with the teenage messengers. Trandahl, who resigned as clerk in 2005 to become executive director of the National Fish and Wildlife Foundation, has not commented yet on the scandal.
The stories keep changing, but so far it appears that he spoke to Foley on several occasions. Kirk Fordham, Jim Kolbe's office, Rep Shimkus, Hastert's chief of staff Scott Palmer at the very least all were having conversations with him about Foley. It also appears that Trandahl had more than one discussion with Foley about his conduct.
There are multiple versions of the truth here. Trandahl will be able to prove several of these folks to be truthful or liars. He has a reputation for being honest, so the chips may fall further today. CNN didn't say or doesn't know at what time today he is going to be coming forward with his version of events.
The big question now that he can answer is the Scott Palmer vs Kirk Fordham chain of events from 2002-2003. One of them is lying. Trandahl says Palmer was lying, and he goes under the bus before the night is over.
Update: "Jeff Trandahl will cooperate fully with the FBI and the House ethics committee investigations," his attorney Cono Namorato said. "At this time, Mr. Trandahl will not be airing his recollections with the media."
It appears that he is now backing out of making a statement today. It still will come out. If anybody thinks the FBI or the ethics committee won't leak this before November 7th, doesn't know D.C.
