This is a continuing diary - it is intended to capture those races that KOS members are actively involved in - either as candidates or volunteers. I apologize that my inexperience in writing diaries has made this less than effective to date. ALL the races aren't here - I did NOT go back and search threads to find all of them. If you have a race not on the list, comment - I will add that race on the next update. If you have read the rant - skip to the list. I keep updating because several commenters have asked if I would keep resubmitting to keep this on the daily list.
"Crashing the Gate" is great - it implies great big changes and a sudden seizure. But there are a lot of people out there with small crowbars prying the gate up from the bottom and trying to gain entrance one at a time. This isn't about seizing power - this is about taking personal responsibility for one's own community or state politics and making the sacrifice for everyone else. The list here WILL include the federal races - we all recognize the head of the ticket helps the down ticket people. But this is also a list of the individual people here at KOS that are making the commitment of time, resources and effort to run for office.
Now, the small print (read - another extended rant), it's my list, so I organized it in the way that makes sense to me: the list is alphabetical by state (and YES Colorado comes before Alabama in the my alphabet - didn't say I could spell) Federal election, then state, then local - delegates et al. come last. Senate comes before House (ain't it just the way things are?) I subscribe to the old truism "Money is the mother's milk of politics." I also subscribe to the maxim of Ted Lowi, my advisor in college, "If you don't play, don't bitch." So, if you don't want to give money, give time - if you don't want to give either, then find someone else you can convince to do it for you. Find a local candidate you can support and SUPPORT them. If you can't find one, go through the list and find someone you can support and support THEM. As my profile shows, I've crossed the fence because of personal and moral reasons that make me believe the candidate I support is the right choice for my community. I am a shareholder in my town, my state, my country. I refuse to let this country go the way of Enron where everyone was happy as long as the money comes their way and then they bitch at the guys who were running the shop for failing them when they weren't watching. Long rant - and here's the list - add to it by comments and I will update again in a couple days.
