Maybe you guys knew this, but I didn't.
Here's the deal. I've been "suffering" (in quotes -- children in Iraq are truly suffering) from a sinus infection for, oh, ever. Today Mrs. Max made a grocery run (to WalMart -- I know, I know) and bought me some generic DayQuil. OTC drug, snag it off the shelf and go home, right?
Nope. See below.
Instead, there's a little card on the rack that says "Take to pharmacy for purchase." OK, maybe they've had some shoplifting problems. Well and good. So Mrs. Max goes to the counter with her little card, but do they just hand over the goodies? No. Instead, the pharmacist told her that she can't sell DayQuil over the counter any more. She had to show her ID, then sign an agreement allowing the pharmacy to PUT HER NAME IN A NATIONAL DATABASE showing that she had bought this "restricted drug." Further, her purchases would be tracked -- she could only buy 2 boxes of DayQuil at the time, and if she tried to buy more before a period of time had elapsed, she wouldn't be allowed to buy it. Why? Well, pseudoephedrine is not only being abused as it stands, but is also apparently being used by Them Damn Kids to make illegal drugs like crack. (This from the pharmacist.)
So...what the fuck?!? Now they're tracking, monitoring, and controlling our purchases of freaking DayQuil? Do you guys know any more about this?
