John Laesch, Democratic candidate for U.S. Congress in Illinois' 14th District, will hold a Town Meeting on Iraq at the Geneva Public Library, 127 James Street, in Geneva, Illinois on Thursday, October 12 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. The meeting is free, open to the general public and will include presentations as well as a question and answer session. Following the Q & A session, the Laesch campaign will be screening the movie, Iraq for Sale, The War Profiteers.
Laesch is using the town hall meeting to "return to his previously scheduled campaign" and address the issues currently facing the nation. "While Hastert is in Chicago attending a fundraiser with Bush, I will continue to address this most pressing issue facing our nation with area residents," said Laesch. "The cycle of violence continues in Iraq and our leaders have no plan for our brave soldiers or Iraq's future. Republican leaders only care about protecting their own political power."
Laesch noted that while the news cycle has been consumed by the Foley scandal, he still wishes to engage Hastert on the issues facing the district and the nation. "I have challenged the Speaker to a debate four times," said Laesch, "but he is still ducking my challenges and spending his time raising money elsewhere while the voters in this district are waiting for answers and solutions."
Previously in the campaign, Laesch held town hall meetings to talk about Immigration and healthcare. "Voters need to know what the Democratic Party stands for and I am going to continue to let people know where I stand," said Laesch.
Laesch will have some media availability prior to the meeting.
