CITIZENS OF DISTRICT 6 DELIVER PETITION TO DEMAND REP. PRICE DEBATE STEVE SINTON FOR ANSWERS
October 11, 2006. For Immediate Release.
Roswell, GA. Voters in the 6th Congressional District have become increasingly vocal in their demand for an open debate between Representative Tom Price, and his opponent Steve Sinton. With the controversy surrounding this Congress, citizens want answers, and they want an opportunity to cast informed votes in November.
More below the fold.
Rep. Price is hiding behind George W. Bush's skirts. He is a mouthpiece for the NeoCons and apparently doesn't feel he can defend his ideas.
The Centennial High School PTSA along with the Horseshoe Bend Homeowners Association hosted a candidate's forum with 21 candidates ranging from Federal Office to County Commissioner. Prior to the event, Representative Price was presented a petition with several hundred signatures from voters asking him to agree to meet in a public forum for debate. Colleen Sims, a citizen of the 6th district, approached Mr. Price and presented him with the petition and asked him to agree to the debate. Mr. Price responded by saying, "I will attend any legitimate forum."
Twice, The League of Women Voters has sponsored candidate forums to allow the voters in Congressional District 6 an opportunity to hear their Congressman and his opponent on issues. At each forum, the League of Women voters told the capacity crowd that they had specifically worked with Rep. Price's office to accommodate his schedule. Both times they believed that they had arranged a date Rep. Price would attend. Both times he did not show.
A no-show TWICE. That's the way a good Republican should act, eh? BTW, Steve also demanded that Rep. Price condemn Speaker Hastert and ask for his resignation, Price refused, and as Assistant Majority Whip, Price is part of the House Leadership and therefore part of the problem. OK...back to the 2-time no-show for the LWV:
As a result, Rep. Price fell to heavy criticism. On June 4, 2006, Richard Whitt of the AJC reported, "Price missed a League of Women Voters forum in favor of a meet-and-greet sponsored by the East Cobb Civic Association. The audience in Marietta reacted with boos and chicken clucking sounds when organizers announced Price's absence. More groans and boos followed when his campaign manager began reading a statement from the Congressman saying `a foundation has been laid for controlling runaway government spending' during his tenure in Washington."
Again on September 25, the League of Women Voters held a forum in which the moderator noted that while the LOWV had worked with Rep. Price to accommodate his schedule, the Congressman had failed to appear. At this event, angry Republicans, Democrats and Independents began a petition to demand that Rep. Price attend an event in which the two candidates could debate the important issues plaguing this Congress and answer questions from the constituents. That petition of several hundred voters in the 6th district is the one Ms. Sims delivered personally to Tom Price last evening.
"There is nothing more important than being directly accountable to the voters prior to the election. This election is about who we are as Americans, and what legacy we want to leave our children," said Mr. Sinton. "I believe each voter has a right to have his or her questions answered."
C-Span informed the Sinton campaign today they would consider airing the debate. Perhaps at least in the 6th district the will of the people will be heard, and both candidates will indeed show up to answer questions to their constituents.
We can only hope that there will be a debate and that it will be on C-Span. Steve hasn't gone on TV yet and needs only $15,000 to do so.

BTW. Rep. Tom Price is an MD, an Orthopedic Surgeon to be exact. He has received hundreds of thousands of dollars from the Orthopod lobby. He pulled a "Fristy" on the House Floor when he "diagnosed" Terry Schiavo during that fiasco last year. He has also steadfastly refused to support Stem Cell Research. You know the drill:

Tom Price is the type of weasley guy that needs to be booted from Congress.
Steve Sinton DONATE HERE is the type of Progressive that can get the Congress back on track.
