With 7,382 state legislative seats,
we can't manage them all from DC. And we wouldn't want to.
Here's what we do...
Our political directors work with legislators, caucus directors, and allies in each state. We develop state-specific strategies, working with national and local partners to enable Democratic legislators to win in all regions of the country.
We help give them access to tools, like polling, communications, research, and now online fundraising. Many of these basic political tools are too expensive for state legislative races, so providing an economy of scale and making them accessible is a huge advantage for our side.
We're unique in that we don't dictate the message. We recruit strong candidates who know their districts well, and we encourage them to run on local messages. We work with leaders and staff in each state to develop and effective messaging operation.
Hmm...localizing races.... Where have we heard that before?
In Crashing the Gate, Jerome and I argue for the devolution of centralized power to the states, allowing local leaders who know their own lay of the land best to make important decisions.
Stay tuned to see how that's working out. (Here's a hint.)
If you missed it, here's why these races are important.
Here's how to stay in touch.
And, most importantly, here are four states where you could make a difference.
