REstore Sanity In Government Now. RE S.I.G.N.
I'm not going to detail the list of high crimes and misdemeanors -- and utter incompetence -- which merit an impeachment effort in 2007, whether likely to succeed or not. There are other diaries on the recommended list -- right now -- cataloging these reasons very well. I hope a multi-pronged effort goes forward to remove these clowns from office before 2009. (Kinda makes you choke a bit to think "2009" in this context, doesn't it?)
This topic ought to be an obvious point for some original thought to begin. It is also an expression of my curiosity as to campaigns in the works already.
Let the 2006 campaign include numerous statewide and local initiatives and referenda calling upon Bush and Cheney to RESIGN.
Let city councils, and state legislatures, vote such resolutions. (Model: Nuclear Freeze Campaign, and Nuclear Free Zones, of the 1980s.)
Does anyone know of such campaigns, or locales where they might be initiated? (Remember -- it all began with the Vermont town meetings in 1982.)
A few nonpartisan reasons, which are likely obvious to a majority of the public by now:
Apart from the corporate agenda to which they are wedded, to which half the American electorate is apparently oblivious, these men are simply incompetent in the performance of the basic duties of the Presidency and Vice Presidency, whatever partisan objectives they may have seized office in order to serve.
They don't even pretend to serve, as politicians throughout the centuries have done, so great is their hubris and disdain.
The two elections which were arguably stolen leave us with a taste of their utter disrespect for "the opinions of mankind". Real leaders would hasten to reassure the half of the electorate that voted against them of the fairness and honesty of the election process. Real investigations would immediately be commenced to verify the legitimacy of their installation. Not a word. Not a care that doubts persist. Certainly smells like an indication of a hand in the fix.
Indeed, one saving grace, for which I am grateful, is that these men are not competent politicians, nor possessed of any charismatic appeal to bind the public more loyally. That would make them truly dangerous, and only the passivity of the American body politic has allowed them entry this far.
Bush, too, is obviously depressed, barely fuctioning, and would love to be relieved of this burden. It just ain't no fun anymore.
These men are not well.
Save us the embarrassment, time, and expense to national well-being of a second impeachment proceeding in two administrations, this one utterly valid. RESIGN.
Let the public, in the voices available to it, gently start this ball rolling. The hill is probably a steep one.
Never was a President so fitted, or a deed so merited. RESIGN.
