This is a call for personal stories .. it can be about your experiences with voters as you worked for campaigns, or just in discussions with your neighbors, friends or relatives.
Specifically, help to shine a light on what might make people who normally "don't care about politics" motivated to sit up and take notice, and get out and vote. Got a story about your school or your dorm, the guys or gals in the band, at the local pub or bowling alley? Fellow workers in the shop, in the office or people you see at the dry cleaners, the local restaurant or garden shop?
Is it the war Iraq and potential war in Iran that seems to get the most traction, or the price of gas and oil? Perhaps, it's the environment, or health care .. there are so many issues at hand to discuss with our neighbors.
With my background primarily in sales, one of the things I do one-on-one is to "pre-qualify" my potential customer. I try to match what I think is the best product and value to meet their expectations, and continue to qualify and quantify through the process, adjusting the offers I make, based upon responses to the ideas I throw at my potential clients.
With a lot of our candidates, we know the "product". If not, a few minutes spent on their website, a staffer or even with the candidate will help sell our cause. It's really a case of 'selling' - and we must become adept at it.
There are so many people here in our community - each of us has a unique story to tell, I just know some wonderful ideas can be brought out.
How can we use your story to help us move along our Progressive political viewpoints? How can we get even more people, and help grow our community, helping those who have yet to find their 'voice', whether it be a voice or anger, frustration or determination?
We have the power to do this.
It's time to start telling each other how.
