The television season is coming to an end. "
Boston Legal" ended pretty good with the introduction of Parker Posey's "Squid" character. The series finale for "
Alias" aired last night and I found it somewhat disappointing. The
"Rambaldi Mystery" just didn't seem to have a good payoff, and that isn't a good sign for "Lost" since both share J.J. Abrams as executive producer & creator. However, the latest rumors I've heard about this wednesday's season finale say that
some of the questions will be answered. If you want to read some possible spoilers as to what those answers may be, you can see it at the end of the diary. Also, as a side note, J.J. Abrams is busy developing the next
Star Trek movie, with some speculation that maybe Paramount might want him to produce a new series if the movie does well.
There's also rumors of a certain comic property being turned into a HBO series, which I'll get into after the jump. First, the shows ending their seasons...
"24"
Jack Bauer: Kill me. Just kill me.
The Sisiphian struggle of Jack Bauer came to a close last night in the fifth season finale. Among the things that occurred:
- Jack was able to kill Bierko & his team of Russian terrorists after sneaking aboard a submarine. Jack instructed a petty officer trapped aboard to take out one of them out by telling him to "cut fast & cut deep" when slitting someone's throat.
- After securing the submarine, Jack killed Christopher Henderson in cold blood, doing it in the name of his murdered friends: David Palmer, Tony Almeida, and Michelle Dessler.
- Logan reveals himself to be a "Minuteman" after the First Lady seduces Logan in order to buy time for Jack. Logan is able to disrobe, have sex with Mrs. Logan, and be dressed in one commercial break.
- Jack takes control of Marine One & disables the Secret Service, to take President Logan prisoner in order to force him to confess while Chloe records it for authorities. It doesn't work & when push comes to shove, Jack can't kill the sitting President.
- Logan arrives at the ceremony for David Palmer's transport back to Washington. The First Lady becomes hysterical after hearing that Jack failed to break President Logan & seeing the sight of Palmer's coffin. Logan has her taken to an empty hangar, where he admits his role in the day's events, roughs her up, and threatens to drug her up & send her to an asylum to live out the rest of her days.
- Logan has been tricked. Jack planted a micro-transmitter on Logan that recorded the entire conversation with the First Lady. Chloe plays it for the Attorney General. The AG orders Federal Marshalls to arrest the President, while Logan is in the middle of a televised eulogy for President Palmer. Logan attempts to have the Secret Service block the Federal Marshalls, but the Secret Service refuses. Logan is led away, while David Palmer's body is loaded into the plane for its trip to a final rest at Arlington Cemetery.
...And if it had ended there, all would have been right in the world. Jack reunited with Audrey & they could have gone off & had babies and lived in a house with a picket fence. However, then someone mentions the 2 words that's just an omen for danger on this show: "Kim Bauer". When her name is mentioned or she shows up, bad shit is going to happen. People are going to be kidnapped, boyfriends are going to lose legs, cougars come out of the California woods, and entire office buildings get nerve-gassed to death. So it came as no suprise that this is when the Motherfucking Chinese show up, beat Jack within an inch of his life, cart him off to a Chinese freighter, and sail away. Speculation on season 6 has ranged from "24: Prison Break" with CTU mounting a rescue mission to get Jack, to it beginning at some point after Jack was rescued with him being brainwashed "Manchurian Candidate" style by the Chinese.
Hopefully Jack will kick the shit out of the Chinese as much as Kiefer beat up this Christmas tree...
...As a wise person once said, Jack Bauer is our only hope to save the world, but only AA can save Kiefer Sutherland.
"GREY'S ANATOMY"
Denny: No no no, we're taking turns. I've decided. It's polite and it keeps me from yelling. When it's your turn again, you can talk. For 5 years, I've had to live by the choices of my doctors. The guys that cut me open decided my life; there wasn't one choice that was mine. And now, I have this heart that beats and works. I get to be like everybody else. I get to make my own decisions, have my own life, do whatever the damn hell I choose. Now here's the good part, so you listen close. What I choose, is you. You're who I wanna wake up with, and go to bed with, and do everything in between with. I get a choice now. I get to choose. I choose you Izzie Stevens. Ok, it's your turn again.
The tragic finale for "Grey's Anatomy" had many developments...
- Izzie cuts the LVAD wire that helps Denny's heart pump in order to make his heart worse, & move him up the donor list.
- Dr. Burke is shot with paralysis to his hand being a possible result.
- Denny asks & then reaffirms his desire to marry Izzie.
- Due to events with the chief's niece, the hospital hosts a prom that requires all staff to appear. Derek brings Addison, while Meredith brings Finn.
- During the Prom, Meredith & Derek sneak off to a room & have sex.
- Denny dies from a stroke, sending Izzie into a tailspin. She confesses her role in cutting the LVAD wire, and then quits the program.
- The season ends with Meredith standing between Finn & Derek trying to choose who to go with.
...In the fall, you'll have to choose between this & CSI, when ABC moves it to thursday nights.
"THE OC"
Marissa (to Ryan; her last words): No, stay. Don't leave.
The big news in the season finale was the death of Marissa (Mischa Barton). There were conflicting reports of why this happened. Some said the writers had enough of the character & didn't see any other direction to go with her. She had already been a shoplifter, a drunk, run away, attempted suicide, and became a lesbian for a while. Other reports had Mischa Barton wanting to leave because she feared being typecast, and wanting to do movie roles. It's been reported that show creator Josh Schwartz is said to return & take a more active role in the writing, like he did in season 1. Taylor Townsend & Marissa's sister Kaitlin Cooper will likely become regular cast members.
"DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES"
Mary Alice: This is the street where I used to live, and these were the people whom I shared my life. I met them the day they moved in, and I saw what they brought with them. Beautiful dreams for the future, and quiet hopes for a better life. Not just for themselves, but for their children too. If I could, would I tell them what lies ahead? Would I warn them of the sorrow & betrayal that lie in store? No. From where I stand now, I see enough of the road to understand how it must be traveled. The trick is to keep moving forward. To let go of the fear & the regret that slow us down, and keep us from enjoying a journey that will be over too soon. Yes, there will be unexpected bends in the road. Shocking surpises we didn't see coming. But that's really the point, don't you think?
Among the things that occurred in the finale...
- It was revealed that Matthew, not Caleb, had murdered Melanie Foster. Matthew was willing to allow his autistic brother to take the blame & then allow his mother to kill him to make the problem go away.
- Bree is in an asylum after abandoning her son Andrew on the side of the road, and her daughter runs away with Matthew. After hearing that Matthew is the one responsible for Melanie Foster's murder, Bree escapes from the asylum & rushes home to confront both her daughter & Matthew. She stands in their way long enough for the cops to kill Matthew.
- Lynette's suspicions about Tom were wrong. He wasn't having an affair, but discovered that he had a child out of wedlock with a previous girlfriend some eleven years earlier. The child's mother, Nora, at first threatens to sue for back child support, but then takes a settlement. She uses it to buy a home 5 minutes away.
- Gabby finds out that Carlos is having sex with Xiao-Mei, the maid & surrogate mother to their child. Carlos claims it to be "even" after what Gabby did last year with the gardner, but Gabby throws him out of the house.
- Susan has Karl & Mike fighting over her. Mike eventually summons up the stomach to buy a ring, but is run over by Orson (Kyle MacLachlan) who seems to have some kind of past with Mike & might have done prison time with him. This continues the chain of psychopathic medical professionals on the show (Felicia-Nurse, George-Pharmacist, Orson-Dentist). The season-finale ends with Bree going on a date with Orson, continuing the chain from George.
...Next season will have Lynette going back to being a stay at home Mom, Julie will become a "problem" for Susan, and a new season-long mystery that involving many people in the neighberhood will start.
Upcoming Endings
"AMERICAN IDOL"
Who are you with? Katherine or are you with Taylor's Soul Patrol?
"THE SOPRANOS"
Carmela: I found out that our son, the liar, had been fired--3 weeks ago.
Tony: From Blockbuster? (to A.J.) How the fuck you do that--they got rhesus monkeys working as managers over there!
The Vito-Johnny Cakes storyline has been front & center this season. The death of Vito in last sunday's episode has set up a possible war between New York & Jersey. I found myself wondering whether or not Phil had "secrets" too. If you rewatch the episode & look at some of the subtext, there's hints. Will Tony get sick of A.J.'s bullshit? Will Meadow move west with Finn? Will the series end with Phil taking out Tony?
"HOUSE M.D."
House: In actuality, all your little girl is doing...is saying "Yoo hoo to the who-who."
Claire: She's what?
House: "Marching the penguin." (Claire looks blank) "Ya-yaing the Sisterhood." "Finding Nemo." (Grace giggles) Liked that one.
Claire: Are you saying that my daughter (covers her daughter's ears) is masturbating?
House: I was trying to be discreet--there's a child in the room!
My favorite medical drama. I'm taping the season finale as I write this. Will House end up being a daddy for Cutty's kid?
"LOST"
Mr. Eko: For a brief time I served in a small parish in England. Every Sunday after mass I would see a young boy waiting at the back of the church. And then one day the boy confessed to me that he had beaten his dog to death with a shovel. He said that the dog had bitten his baby sister on the cheek and he needed to protect her. And he wanted to know whether he would go to hell for this. I told him that God would understand. That he would be forgiven as long as he was sorry. But the boy did not care about forgiveness. He was only afraid that if he did go to hell, that dog would be there waiting for him.
I said I would reveal some of the rumors I've read for this wednesday's finale before the jump, so turn back now if you don't want to know...
- Desmond will supposedly show up in the sail boat. Through flashback you will learn who cared for "The Button" before him, and the reason for why Oceanic Flight 815 crashed.
- One of the main characters who's been with the show since episode 1 will be shot through the chest.
- The counter on "The Button" will reach 0 & something DOES happen.
- The purpose of "The Others" Dharma Initiative station might be revealed. (hint: it has something to do with Walt's "abilities")
- The biggest rumor I've heard is that Desmond will claim that he escaped the island in the sail boat only to find "nothing" & no one. He will argue with Locke that "The Button" is responsible for this.
Future Series?
"Entourage" is going to start back up next month with what is likely to be the last season of "Deadwood" coming on June 11th too. However, there are uncomfirmed rumors that HBO is considering turning Garth Ennis' Preacher into a series...
...If you think the Christian Fundamentalists have a problem with the Da Vinci Code, wait till they get a load of this. The story centers around Jesse Custer. He becomes melded to an entity called "Genesis". Genesis is the unauthorized offspring of an Angel & Demon, and might rival the power of God himself. Genesis is able to escapes from Heaven, at which point God abandons Heaven & runs away. Genesis merges with Jesse, and they go on a journey to hunt down God & make him answer for his sins as creator. Along the way, Jesse runs into Vampires, an angel of death called the Saint of Killers, a boy called "Arseface", and an organization called "The Grail" that is directing world policy in order to fullfil Revelation prophecy. The Grail also protects the lineage of Jesus Christ & Mary Magdalene's children, whom they've inbred for the past 2,000 years...
