Haven't seen this diaried here.
According to Survey USA, former Republican Paul Morrison leads incumbent wingnut abortion foe Phil Kline 56-43.
Just two weeks ago this race was a dead heat. Kline won 4 years ago by a hair. He has since used his AG office to subpoena records from Kansas abortion clinics, etc. Morrison is a serious guy, a career prosecutor, highly competent.
In other Kansas news:
Gov. Seblius is ahead of her Republican Wingnut challenger 56-43.
This is an important race for a number of reasons.
1) Phil Kline was intent on using his office to send to the state legislature and courts challenges to abortion that will end up with the Supreme Court.
2) Morrison is a former Republican turned Democrat due to the toxicity of the KS GOP to rational people. His victory (LARGE victory) will put a knife through the heart of the KS GOP.
3) Dems have held the Governor's office surprisingly often in Kansas, but NEVER have they held both Governor and AG at the same time. This could be an incedibly effective teaming, bolstering Sebelius law enforcement/terrorism credentials.
4) This is a huge win for Sebelius. She's gotta go up in the veepstakes, certainly she looks more and more likely to take Pat Roberts Senate seat when he retires.
5) If things look like this for Sebelius and Morrison, its likely Nancy Boyda, KS-02 is going to take out wingnut R Jim Ryun (she was within MOE as of last internal partisan Dem poll). Two years ago the RCCC rescued Ryun from Boyda with (cue Dr. Evil) ONE MILLION DOLLARS. That kinda money goes a long way in KS. Not this time.
6) Flash forward to 2010-- will KS have 2 of 4 House seats Dem, 1 Dem Senator and a Dem Governor?
