Before I start, I'd like to say that I support NPR. Or rather, I support WNYC with a sustaining membership. And I will continue to do so. I have been a loyal NPR listener for 20 years and I don't intend to give up now just because some Morning Edition hosts have become the Mouths of Sauron.
Ooops, forgive me for sounding angry.
Please give generously to your local stations. They aren't responsible for this tripe.
Anyway, I listened to the Rahm Emanuel interview with Steve Inskeep and I have a few comments and corrections for Steve. By the way, Rahm, you did great! You should be half asleep for more of your interviews. You let your guard down a bit and I could hear your committment and the disbelief in your voice. Your responses were excellent. Steve, on the other hand...
More on the flip.
First, Steve, Lieberman is not a moderate, centrist Democrat running against a lefty Ned Lamont. Lieberman is an incumbent who shamelessly supported the Bush Administration's most egregious sins. I'm thinking Iraq and suppression of dissent. Moreover, he is part of the Senate Incumbency racket. Did it ever occur to you that the reason that the Democratic party Senate Campaign committee is so lukewarm to Lamont is because he is not one of them? Oh, you didn't know that the DSCC was lukewarm to Lamont? That suggests you haven't been doing your homework, Steve. You see, Steve, the DSCC picked Lieberman to get CT. To the DSCC, Lamont is an interloper striding confidently into the race with ideas about bringing the Iraq war to a conclusion so we can invest our money in healthcare and relieving small businesses of that burden. He's a very forward thinking, entrpreneurial man, is Ned Lamont. Not at all a long-haired, hippy type, pinko fag.
And what
is left exactly, Steve? I know that Rahm asked you to define anger this morning. He had you on the spot for a minute, didn't he? Because, to any loyal NPR listener, you suddenly sounded just like Sean Hannity. As Rahm patiently pointed out to you, there is a lot to be angry about and many of the sane, middle class voters I've been canvassing are saying the same thing. They are furious about Iraq, they are not fooled about the tax cuts and they no longer think the Republican party represents their ethics or values. Those are unaffiliated voters, Steve. I'm not even talking about the Democrats I've spoken to.
So, Steve, are these unaffiliated voters suddenly lefties?
What is the left anymore? Here at DailyKos, we have put our ideologies aside. We are Democrats, Republicans, Libertarians, Socialists, conservatives and liberals all united against a dangerous, radical element in the Republican Party. We are supporting Democrats this year because there is no other choice if the country is to reverse the course the Bush Administration has set us upon. That course is towards wealth disparity, suppression of dissent, unequal treatment in the courts, and loss of our technological prowess. We are a lesser nation. Our army is destroyed by the people we entrusted to keep it strong and ready. We are more vulnerable to attack and our enemies now know our limitations.
So, Steve, I realize that you and Juan and Cokie have surrendered your independent thought in order to collect a paycheck. You dutifully spout out the talking points that Tomlinson and Rove fax to you in the morning. You gently converse in a Texas diner with Dick Armey over his steak and eggs, long may his arteries clog, while you bare your teeth at a sleepy Rahm Emanuel. We know all of this and we have hope that someday when there is balance in Congress and the CPB and NPR funding isn't under constant assault, that NPR will return to the quality journalism it once stood for. In the meantime, give us a break and do your fucking homework.
