The following is a copy and paste from Jim's Press Release. I am not sure if this mean dollars for his campaign or not. Let's hope so. Jim is the only candidate, running against an incumbent that the DCCC is supporting in MI.
The DCCC needs to spend it all this cycle. Dean's 50 state plan was prophetic in this political environment.
The DCCC need to borrow money if it has to!
DCCC BOOSTS MARCINKOWSKI CAMPAIGN;
NAMES IT AS AN EMERGING RACE
(Brighton, MI) In recognition of the tremendous progress made by his campaign, the Democratic Congressional Campaign Committee (DCCC) today added Jim Marcinkowski to their nation-wide list of Emerging Races.
The DCCC describes the Emerging Races list as candidates from "traditionally non-competitive districts" who "through the strength of their campaigns, put themselves in a position to win in November."
Marcinkowski, a Lake Orion resident, is the Democratic Congressional challenger to incumbent Rep. Mike Rogers (R-Brighton). A Navy veteran, a former CIA officer and prosecutor, Marcinkowski currently serves as Deputy Attorney for the City of Royal Oak.
The Marcinkowski campaign has recently received national media attention, with a front-page article in the New York Times and a feature on National Public Radio. Marcinkowski has been endorsed by major national labor groups, environmental organizations like the Sierra Club and Clean Water Action, and state and local politicians.
"We always knew this would be a tough district," said Marcinkowski. "Our progress has been incredible, particularly when you look at the way the 8th was grossly gerrymandered by the GOP. As we've campaigned across the district, we've heard from independents, disaffected Republicans and traditional Democrats all saying the same thing: Washington isn't working for them. Our district has faced tremendous job loss as a result of so-called free trade agreements and tax policies that reward manufacturers who ship jobs overseas. This has got to stop, and people are ready to make it happen on November 7th."
Marcinkowski's opponent has been closely tied to the House Republican leadership and serves as Deputy Whip, a position also held by disgraced Rep. Mark Foley until his resignation earlier this month. Rogers also served as chair of the National Republican Congressional Committee in the last election cycle; he co-hosted a fundraiser for Rep. Katherine Harris (FL) at Rep. Foley's Washington home in 2002. Rogers has given and/or received funds from convicted lobbyist Jack Abramoff, convicted Congressman Randy "Duke" Cunningham (CA), indicted House Speaker Tom DeLay (TX) and Congressman Bob Ney (OH).
