The failure of the Republican party to pass massive, repressive, closed-minded, discrimnatory legislation against gays is explained by one thing: too many gays working for Republican Congressmen.
The LA Times has an article about the growing rift between the Republican leadership and their previously blinded, right-wing Christian followers. Apparently, right-wing mega-church Christians have realized, in large numbers, that the Republican leadership only advances their agenda in small, meaningless ways in election years.
While we Democrats are relieved that some of the people in the Light have actually begun to see the light, only a few of these people have actually concluded that Bill Frist, Dennis Hastert, Karl Rove deceived them and manipulated them as political tools. The rest of these right-wing freaks blame the failure to advance their so-called "Christian Agenda" on......(drum roll please)..........THE GAY CONSPIRACY!!! Yes, you heard that correctly. They actually believe that gay Congressional staffers have secretly undermined and sabotaged their agenda and kept the Congress from passing the so-called Christian legislation. Consequently, they want to purge gays from the Republican party.
After I stopped giggling, I realized that this helps Democrats tremendously. We are not going to get any of these people to vote for Democrats unless we can convert them from their previous belief system--a very small possibility. However, here is how we are helped:
(1) The more these people fight to purge gays, the less likely they will be motivated to vote for the current Republican Congress.
(2) The more these people fight to purge gays, the more likely conservative and moderate gays in the Republican party will become Democrats.
(3) The more these people fight to purge gays, the more likely conservative and moderate straight Republicans with senses of decency will see the craziness in the Republican party and become Democrats.
(4) The more these people fight to purge gays, the more likely Karl Rove's head explodes trying to figure out how to solve his unsolvable problem: How do Republicans keep moderates and people of decency in the Republican party while still satisfying the so-called Christian right-wingers? You can only ride on the back of a tiger so long, Karl!
Oh, and BTW, here's a heart-felt thank you to all the gay Republicans for executing Operation Pink Elephant so effectively. We could not have done it without you!
