Like so many of you, I got my fundraising letter from Dean yesterday asking me to put out a matching gift to a first-time donor. I have pulled way, way back on political donations because, well, we're kinda broke right now. But I loved this innovative idea and I couldn't resist!
(You know there is more, right?)
So I took a deep breath and decided I could give $50 dollars. I wrote quite a long message about how we have been hearing over the last several elections about why
this election is so important, and now we can see all too clearly that those elections
really were terribly important. According to one research project, 600,000 Iraqis may have died because we failed to elect Democrats. Innocent people are being tortured and imprisoned indefinitely because we failed to elect Democrats. Our Constitution is crumbling because we failed to elect Democrats. It felt so good to write -- probably because, like most of you, I love to write. I was communicating to someone I didn't know and it felt great!
But what felt super-duper great was getting an email this morning from Reda, who read my message and was inspired to donate! And she thanked me! And now I am much happier than I was earlier today when I was thinking about Bush signing the "To Hell with Human Rights" legislation.
I encourage you to give it a go. Write, read, give, and be happy. Match
