As you probably know, kossacks have developed
Energize America, a plan for US energy independance and security. The latest version of the plan, its presentation at YearlyKos, and the various diaries on DailyKos that made it possible to create it are all accessible on
this website and at the bottom of this diary.
The next phase is to get this plan supported by as many representatives as possible in order to have a chance to put it into law. That's where you guys come into play.
In addition to Bill Richardson's kind words of support during the YearlyKos presentation, Energize America has already been endorsed on DailyKos by a few candidates:
- Ted Ankrum TX-10
- Mark Cohen PA State Rep
- Jerry McNerney CA-11
- Mort Meirr OH-08
- Joe Roberts FL-01
Today, I am pleased to announce that Nancy Skinner, candidate in Michigan's 9th district, is also endorsing Energize America - and that she will stick around to discuss it and other issues in this thread.
From the
page on the environment on her website:
1. Nancy Skinner helped launch the Chicago Climate Exchange (CCX) in Chicago, the first market-based exchange to facilitate a global reduction in CO2 emissions. Chicago Climate Exchange,® Inc. (CCX®) is a self-regulatory exchange that administers the world's first multi-national and multi-sector marketplace for reducing and trading greenhouse gas emissions. CCX represents the first voluntary commitment by a cross-section of North American corporations, municipalities and other institutions to establish a rules-based market for reducing greenhouse gases.
2. Nancy spearheaded an effort to rebuild and relocate two Midwestern flood-stricken communities as models of sustainable development, a project that received a Presidential Award from the Clinton administration's Presidential Commission on Sustainable Development (PCSD) and as detailed in the book Eco-Pioneers: Practical Visionaries Solving Today's Environmental Problems by Steve Lerner.
3. As a policy continuation result of the flood work, Nancy was the principal author of the Greening of Federal Disaster Policy, containing policy recommendations for several federal agencies and the White House. The policy proposals were endorsed by Hazel O'Leary, Secretary of the Department of Energy (DOE).
She has a specific plan to end dependence on foreign oil and substantially reduce carbon emissions, which is not a part of Energize America per se, but is compatible with its spirit, would be good for US industry, its workers and the environment.
As my first act in Congress, I will join with other lawmakers, industry stakeholders and research experts to put into action a plan I believe will make America's auto industry number one again, end our dependence on foreign oil and substantially reduce carbon emissions. This plan will reverse the oil industry's $6 billion in subsidies and direct the dollars toward helping the U.S. auto industry develop the next generation of energy-efficient vehicles, putting America at the forefront of "green" technology.
Go read the plan here.
Let me quote Jordan LFW, Online Outreach Organizer for Skinner For Congress:
Nancy is talking about global warming and fuel-efficient vehicles in the heart of Michigan's auto industry. Detroit put the world on wheels, and Detroit can lead the charge in developing hybrids that get 100 mpg. Nancy believes in Energize America, and will support it as a Congresswoman.
Nancy's campaign has caught the attention of the national blogosphere, Barack Obama, and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. RFK Jr appeared in Nancy's television ad, boldly declaring that "the scientific debate on global warming is over" and we need to elect Democrat Nancy Skinner.
Now Nancy is endorsing Energize America. We need to send Nancy Skinner to Congress so she can continue to work to reverse the effects of global warming.
