So I'm officially on a
Factor Marathon this AM. After
yesterday's MOST entertaining segment on Extremists, the follow up had to be less interesting. And it was.
Today we chalk up MAJOR minutes on Jessica's Law. Do not kid yourself, this will be a MAJOR issue in the upcoming elections. I'm hoping that when I come out of my intellectual seclusion that SOMEONE on our side is figuring out a way to counter this upcoming tidal wave before it's already passed us by.
All the rest, including Geraldo Rivera speaking on Natalee Holloway, after the cut:
Talking Points "Resisting Jessica's Law": Most media will not support mandatory prison terms for child sex offenders. Speaking of the President of the NH Union-Leader newspaper, OReilly lies: "I told the Union Leader guy his paper was not doing enough, he told me to 'stuff it.'" (RNinNC Note: An extremely misleading characterization - a total fantasy, in fact)
Only one paper in America is editorializing in favor of Jessica's Law - The Herald News of Passaic, NJ. On the other hand, there's the Washington Post:
"Society has a legitimate interest in protecting children and others from sexual abuse. Civil liberties cannot take a back seat. There is a need for sound legislation that distinguishes between offenders who can be rehabilitated... and those who cannot." 8/25/05
Rehab appears to anathema to Conservatives (except Rush). The Post wants to rehab child rapists??? The Houston Chronicle and the Minneapolis Star Tribune also oppose Jessica's Law. OReilly is confused because "all of these papers aren't far left..., The Washington Post is moderate Left." So, whassup?
Some oppose the Law because they don't think the punishment fits the crime. However, victims of childhood rape never fully recover, so 25 years may not even be a stiff enough punishment for rapists. BUT:
"Many in the media are simply incapable of making that simple judgement. They live in a grey world where nothing is black and white, right or wrong. There are always extenuating circumstances. They live in a No Judgement Zone."
They have forfeited their right to freedom.

Quick contrast between the Backdrop and OReilly's actually words:
Backdrop: "Ego is in play. The NH publisher doesn't want to be told what to do by me."
OReilly: "Second thing in play here is ego. The NH publisher wasn't going to let that punk OReilly tell him or his state what to do - No Way!"
_
________________
McQuaid (the evil NH publisher) sarcastically called OReilly a 'crusader.' And OReilly is ready to embrace the term. He "has to be, because many establishment people like (McQuaid) aren't going to protect the children until they are forced to do so." What's MORE:
"They're not going to secure the border either. Or develop alternative energy OR admit we're in a worldwide War on Terror..."
Crusading for the protection of children is the only way we're gong to get things done. 3 CHOCK FULL MINUTES, as always.
Top Story "Jessica's Law": Wendy Murphy is an attorney that FoxNews has hired to look at Child Sex Offender Laws in all 50 states. She speaks up for OReilly in facing down the evil NH publisher: "He deserved for you to be out of control. I was rageful, too," she tells MrBill.
OReilly asks Mrs. Murphy if the line between support and opposition to Jessica's Law is a conservative/liberal one. Murphy (surprise surprise) believes it is:
"I think it is partly, in its traditional liberatarian sense, no one wants the government to tell them what to do sexually with anyone or anything. I think that's craziness. I don't know if that's where NH fits, probably that's the kind of thing that's going on there."
Does she not know the difference between "liberals" and "libertarians," or is she just twisting things around to confuse the viewers? I report, you decide!
Other detractors are "tree-huggers" who think you can fix people, but you can't. 6 minutes.

NEWS BRIEF: Hurricane Katrina downgraded./ SoCal suffers 30 minutes of rolling black outs./ Paris apt. fire kills many immigrants./ Miss America pageant to move out of Atlantic City.

Impact Segment "Jessica's Law": Arkansas has moved into the "Yellow" category - opposed to Jessica's Law. Gov. Huckabee and the legislature are not going to move on tougher mandatory sentencing laws. Wisconsin, however, moves into the "Purple" category - supportive of Jessica's Law, and thus graced by her favorite color.
Now, the horror stories. In AR, a man served only 2 years after assaulting two girls aged 7 and 9 year old. In WI, 2 professors have been convicted of molesting kids, but they have yet to be fired by the University of Wisconsin - Madison. One of them is actually getting paid vacation time while he's serving his prison term. He was convicted of molesting 3 girls over a ten year period.
Scott Suden, WI State Rep(R), is planning on pushing a Jessica's Law bill. OReilly says that the Governor of WI, Doyle, a Democrat, is likely to oppose the bill because he is a "slippery kind of guy." Doyle is "not a crusader for the kids - he's going to just put his finger in the air." 5 (more) minutes.
Unresolved Problem "9/11 Cover Up": Lt.Col. Anthony Shaffer is brought on to repeat his take on "Able Danger." He implicates Clinton and his administration for depriving the FBI of military intell which could've stopped 9/11. Thanks Reno - Thanks Gorelick! 4 minutes
Factor Follow Up "London Terrorist Killing": Were the police lying about the circumstances which led them to shoot an innocent Brazilian man on the subway during the terrorists bombings? Looks that way. 4 minutes

NEWS BRIEF: TS Katrina/ Fed Base Closing Committee to meet today./ Iraq extending Constitutional deadline a fourth time seeking to win Sunni approval./ A man shot another man who was stabbing a woman in a WalMart parking lot. This is the second death associated with WalMart this week.

Thursday's With Geraldo (RNinNC Note: perhaps the most terrifying idea for a 'segment' I could've come up with!) "Date Rape Accusations": It's disturbing to see Geraldo talking about Natalee Holloway for one minute, much less SEVEN freakin' minutes!
Back of the Book "Vanished in Aruba": Can you even believe this? My favorite quote of the night from OReilly to end this:
"When is enough enough? The Natalee Holloway phenomenon is something I've never seen before."
4 more minutes in case you've forgotten about Aruba.
My Take As God is my witness, I shall NEVER summarize two Factor shows in one day EVER AGAIN! That is all.
