"In this campaign we're going to ask the voters of New Hampshire a pretty basic question: have you had enough, have you had enough of an imperial president and an ineffective rubber-stamp Congress incapable of solving the real issues we face?" - Paul Hodes
Okay, I'm a little biased, because I live in this district, but when Kos & Co. at the Swing State Project decided yesterday to elevate Paul Hodes' blog-presence by making him a Netroots Candidate, I got excited.
Excited because I have long thought that endlessly re-elected pretend-moderate Charlie Bass is vulnerable this year.
Excited because this is the next logical step in eradicating today's corrupt GOP in New Hampshire (NH was the only state to go from red to blue in 2004, and we replaced a corrupt Republican governor with a Democrat with consistently high approval ratings, and then there's the still unfolding phone-jamming scandal).
More from Hodes' campaign announcement:
"I think a spine is a terrible thing to waste,"
and
"They've borrowed us into a black hole," he said of Republican fiscal management.
Even the Union Leader allowed this quote to sneak in:
"I'll stand up to special interests, and for the people of New Hampshire, and I'll take my backbone to Washington with me."
The Concord Monitor adds:
Hodes said Bass was "a nice enough guy who has been ground up and spit out" by Washington. He called attention to the more than $14,000 Bass received in the past from DeLay's political action committee. He said Bass was beholden to "special interests."
In my opinion, however, Paul hits it out of the park by asking us if we've had enough of an imperial presidency. That, my friends, is a talking point I'd like to hear more of from many candidates. Candidates who talk as if the Consitution of the United States actually matters.
As Kos and the Swing State Project point out, Hodes is already making great fundraising inroads, and this Friday is the end of another fundraising cycle.
If there was ever a time to spare a few dollars to take back the House, this is the time.
Donate directly to Hodes HERE or if you prefer, to the Netroots Candidates HERE.
p.s. I am in no way affiliated with the Hodes campaign. I just want my country and my democracy back.
p.p.s. Bass has another problem, too. The term limits he pledged to are up this year, though no one in the media will call him on it.
