I've been reading the same old, tired books over and over again. I'm not normally a fan of the best-seller list...pop fiction and self-help just don't float my boat.
I'm a serious student of literature, but with little exposure to even the classics (I've been accused of pilfering from "The Handmaid's Tale" without ever even having read it).
No, I don't want to read Woodward's book. No, I don't want to read the 9/11 tin foil hat stuff.
The last two really good books I've read were "Roots" by Alex Haley (because the historical perspective on how we treated Africans and African Americans was something I really needed) and "The Axemaker's Gift" by Robert Ornstein. Oh, and I reread "The Prophet" by Kahlil Gibran because I'm on a spiritual kick right about now.
Help me out here, Kossacks. As autumn closes in and the rains begin here in Seattle-land, there's nothing better than spending the winter curled up under a blanket with a huge pot of hot tea and a few good books to read.
Anything will do. I'm a particular fan of history, philosophy, politics, social movements, biography, and literate, meaningful fiction.
