Kos posted
today that he wonders why Kerry is running for President. I am intensely curious as to the state of relations between Kos (and thus perhaps the dKos community) and the Democratic leadership.
First, an admission. This is my first diary on a blog, anywhere, ever. I became aware of dKos during the latter stages of the Dean campaign, a few months ago, started reading and have been hooked ever since.
I sent my first email to Kos the very day he was attacked for his comment about mercenaries in Iraq. (Silly me, I thought that I had figured out that they were mercenaries. I was a few hours late...)
In a little over a week I have seen Kos de-linked from Kerry, dissed by CJR, attacked by LGF, etc. As a former (incredibly low level) Democratic Party functionary, it makes me wonder what kind of phone calls Kos had last week. Probably some unpleasant ones, I wager.
I have read a bunch of diary posts about all of this, and I keep going back to this: one very important role of blogs (credit to Kos, I believe) is to force issues into the mainstream media. Kos has posted tons of insightful stuff in the last two months.
It begs the question: what is dKos? Is it a part of the Democratic Party, in spirit if not fact? Is it a media watchdog mostly? Is it the genesis of a larger anti-war movement? All of the above? Should we continue to send money to Kerry? In short, where is this going?
Thanks to many for the interesting and vigorous discussions here. And please be gentle, this is my first time. :-)
