I went to a fundraiser tonight for Charlie Brown (CA-04), who is running against one of the most corrupt members of Congress, John Doolittle. Charlie Brown spoke passionately about his experience in the military, his love for his country and the need for change in Washington. He never expected to run for public office, but saw that in this climate it was absolutely necessary. Brown's son is about to leave for his fourth tour in Iraq.

Ambassador Joseph Wilson came along with Charlie Brown and gave an inspiring, sharp and funny speech denouncing this administration, and hoping for change on November 7.
He said that he and his wife (Valerie Plame) have filed a civil suit against administration members who attempted to discredit them, naming Scooter Libby and ten "John Does," the first of whom is Richard Armitage.
Things are looking good for Charlie Brown. I heard from several attendees who have been up working in the district recently that they have seen many, many signs for Brown and almost none for Doolittle. Others told me they have heard many Republicans have turned against Doolittle for a variety of reasons. One example is his plan for the Homewood area of Lake Tahoe. Doolittle put a rider in a bill that blocked the protection of this beautiful piece of forest land alongside the lake.
Owner Jeff Yurosek had hoped to sell the 1,086 acres to the U.S. Forest Service in a deal that would have kept the ski area open, the land protected, and put enough money in his hand to build a commercial center along Highway 89 that would remain privately held. The deal, had it gone through, was estimated to realize more than $60 million - testament to the area's scenic beauty.
But that plan, conducted largely in secret, came to a crashing halt after a local congressman, Rep. John Doolittle, R-Roseville, submitted a one-sentence rider to an Interior Department spending bill - and instantly picqued fears the land will be carved into as many as 23 estate-sized lots for the mega-rich.

Dumping Doolittle will mean great things for California's fourth district and for the nation.
