268,420 is the total number of voters in the 2004 race for
OH-18.
$3,153,072.33 is the total spent by the NRCC in
OH-18 as of
10/25/06. When we put the two numbers together we see that the NRCC has spent
~$11.75 per voter in the district so far.
Last tuesdays total was $2,393,514.60, so we see that they have dumped another $759,557.73 into the district over the last 8 days. Or approx. $2.82 per 2004 voter since last tuesday. Zack Space could really use a few dollars to fight back.
More after tbe bump...
For those of you that haven't followed this race,
OH-18 is a sprawling district that encompasses all or part of 16 primarily rural and suburban counties in the eastern central portion of the state. The district itself only has a few small local television stations and most of the television advertising is being done outside of the district. The media markets that cover the broadcast or cable systems of the district are Cleveland, Columbus, Cincinnati, Youngstown, Akron/Canton, Wheeling. This gerrymandering makes it hard to unseat an incumbent, so if we can get
Zack Space elected this year, there is a good chance he will hold the seat until he retires. Something that the GOP seems to realize by the amount of money they are dumping on
Joy Padgett.
Polling. Public polls are showing Zack Space leading the republican Joy Padgett. However Novaculla the douchebag of liberty is spreading rumors.
Ohio-18: Things suddenly have brightened for state Sen. Joy Padgett (R) in her race against lawyer Zack Space (D). Her internal polls are bringing sighs of relief, one of the few bits of good news this week for Republicans. Voters, apparently willing to overlook her bankruptcy, are finally learning who she is, and she may be able to hang on to the district of Rep. Bob Ney (R). Ney has not resigned yet, but only because he is in such bad financial shape that he needs his congressional paychecks. Leaning Republican Retention.
The Hill isn't buying it. `Ghost of Bob Ney' -- and Democrats in person -- haunt Padgett in Ohio-18
Republicans are well aware of the difficult challenge Padgett faces, considering the poisonous political atmosphere in the district the wake of Ney's corruption charges and guilty plea. Padgett's bankruptcy, however, has prevented her from being able to overcome that specter of GOP scandal.
A GOP strategist speaking on the condition of anonymity said that the bankruptcy issue has inflicted considerable damage and emphasized that Republican turnout will be critical to a Padgett victory.
This seat can be a central part of a long term democratic majority, the demographics of the district are trending our way and we stand a good chance of being able to make this district a bit more friendly during the next redistricting.
However the key to that is winning the seat now, so please send Zack Space a few bucks.
For fun I've continued running the same poll as the previous two diaries. On Oct 10, 21% of poll respondents thought the NRCC was only going to spend ~2 million. Oh those sweet sweet innocent people, I'm still predicting a full Brazillian by election day.
