Last night, I heard from a very reliable source on Capitol Hill that the Inspector General of the Department of Labor was going to probe the sweetheart deal DOL cut with Wal-Mart after the agency found the company had violated child labor laws. George Miller will release the letter today. Actually, the way this sham works is the agency fines Wal-Mart $135,000 and change but Wal-Mart signs a paper saying it denies having broken the law. Alot of people were focused on the DOL agreeing to let Wal-Mart know 15 days in advance about any future intent to investigate it--before launching the investigation. But, what about the puny fine? $135,000 and change counts for about 15 seconds in Wal-Mart sales. I have more to say about this
