I just worked on the Jim Craig Campaign for the NH 1st District. Every volunteer their was pumped up from the Ned Lamont victory. The energy from Lamont's victory really made everyone feel good! I really wrote this diary to remind all of us that although blogging is a powerful tool, we still need to do the footwork on campaigns. Everyone here on Daily KOS should look in the mirror and ask himself or herself, can I volunteer? Even if all you can do is 1 hour a week, that's one hour you could spend on the campaign's phones, mailing letters, et.
As much as the Media wants to hype "US" (meaning bloggers) remember the folks who really won this victory in Connecticut were the people who physically volunteered for Lamont. Political campaigns are still won on the ground. Placing signs, calling people on the phones, holding signs at polling places, et. Many people don't realize that even if you can only give one hour a week, candidates will greatly appreciate it. Everyone on this site needs to ask him or herself "what can I do?" If you are do something currently can you do more? I used to only donate to money campaigns, my attitude was that only young people did the "grunt work". Well I realized that if I really wanted to get the Republicans out, I needed to do some grunt work too. I'm not better then anyone else!
If you live in a Red State or District volunteering is important too. Making the GOP spend money in places they don't want to spend it is important. Even in your house district is Red, your local state district could be Blue. Getting voters turned out can help there. Maybe it's just your city council. The more elected Democrats the better. It builds our farm team, and hurts theirs. Think of the offensive linesmen in football, they never get the glory but without them a quarterback or running back would never score a touchdown.
Lets everyone on Daily KOS take this Lamont victory to heart and try to replicate it in our home states Let's make 2006 the year of the resurgence of people powered campaigns. Everyone on this site needs to ask themselves what am I doing to take this country back.
