Sometimes it happens that a comment sparks a thought that might work in a diary. Why not crank up a media blitz machine? We can use the example of the Gannon press release. We can also blitz LTEs out the wazoo. Bear in mind that LTEs have to be limited in length.
from my comment:
The repubs started out
by blitzing the media machine with faxes. What they sent didn't have to be true cause the media never had time to check it. They could always get somebody to print it and then point to that clipping as affirmation.
more on the flip:
I am not suggesting that we send things that are not true, but I am suggesting that we consider the blitz. We had our first press release the other day and it was good. We need a list of topics and some coordination and we can proceed with our own blitz. Whereever we get published (print media), we can point to that with pride and accomplishment and add it to the faxes we subsequently send out.
This group is uniquely poised to do this because of the diversity of views held by the members thereof. I can see several issues we can post immediate - torture issues, views from the outside of the US, election reform issues, Gannon of course but journalistic payola as the main theme. We might do some queries of the media and the journalists asking them to sign a pledge that they haven't accepted payola. This would increase the scrutiny of the media, I think, and let them know the world is watching.
Looking at today's diaries I see some interesting examples of where we can blitz after some research:
Tom Carper, Corporate "Democrat". Here is a man who has been quoted as wanting to provide "cover" for the repubs on SS reform. WTF? Here is a great chance to research, do LTEs and possibly press release.
Social Security is definitely fair game here. We've got fact, figures, charts, we've got organizations poised to work this issue. Come on editors, come on graphics, lets roll!
Then of course
"Chalibi - He's Baaaack! It strikes me that this could be paydirt. Linking the Bushies with all their evil twins and playmates should be a full time endeavor. Lets let the world know who these folks really are.
Rumsfeld flip-flops again - this is great. How many quotes do we have to shove down this characters throat? I bet between Bush and Rummy we can really paint this issue up in lurid colors. Come on writers do your stuff! Give us LTE's and full fledge press releases.
Diarists - keep it coming but keep the thought of having a diary picked up for the blitz.
