To properly introduce this diary, I should note that from what I've heard and seen, I really like Barack Obama. His words can be very inspiring. However, words are not enough, especially in this election cycle. Which is why I was very dismayed to hear that Senator Obama has refused to campaign in person for Ned Lamont, prompting the following letter:
Dear Senator Obama,
I have heard the talk recently about your possible 2008 run for the Presidency. I happen to be a New Hampshire Democratic primary voter. I have also noted with dismay that you have refused thus far to campaign in Connecticut for Ned Lamont.
Now, I'm not going to say that I wouldn't vote for you in 2008 because you failed to support Ned Lamont when it could really make a difference (and I believe your support, more than any other possible '08 contender, could make the decisive difference in this campaign). However, it would certainly give me pause, and there are other excellent candidates for my consideration.
Why you would want to spend another day in the Senate with the duplicitous, war-mongering Joe Lieberman is beyond me. Further, it seems to me that Ned Lamont would be a valuable colleague in the Senate, holding positions very similar to yours. Ned's ideology and values are much closer to those you claim to hold than Republican in disguise Lieberman.
However, the election is not over, and there is still time for you to change your mind and do the right thing. Go to Connecticut. You'll be glad that you did.
