My my, what interesting parallels we can draw. Today we had two high profile figures from opposing parties make controversial statements regarding our brave men and women in Iraq. Both are speculated to be preparing their second presidential runs. Both are decorated Vietnam veterans. But while one is being ravaged by our fair and balanced media, the other isn't.
And now, without further adieu,
Senator John S. McCain:
I go out to Walter Reed quite often and see these brave young soldiers who have served and sacrificed so much. Many of them have lost limbs, as you know. And it's a very sad thing to see. But at the same time it's very uplifting. Because these young people are so proud of what they've done...
Now, this seems to be a relatively innocuous and benign, even beneficial thing for a politician to say. But, as we have regretfully learned in Mr. John Kerry's case, context is key.
Senator McCain was campaigning against Iraq veteran
Tammy Duckworth in Illinois' 6th CD. She lost both of her legs in November 2004 when her helicopter was hit by a rocket-propelled grenade. For those of you keeping count, that's a year and a half after our mission was accomplished there.
Will the media swarm descend upon this comment? Don't hope too hard.
BTW!! DONATE and/or
VOLUNTEER and help get Tammy Duckworth elected!
