Do other coutries have the evolution/"intelligent" design debate? Is this just a particular form of American stupidity? What about Canada, Britain, etc?
Please reply if you have any info about it.
I'm a high school teacher from Long Island, NY. My subjects are AP World History and Anthropology. During the Physical Anthropology part of my course, I refuse to teach anything but evolution. If anyone questions me, I tell them that this is a course based in fact and provable science, and that I will discuss alternate theories during the Cultural Anthropology part of the course. I then have the students do projects on various "creation myths" and the Genesis story is one of them.
But this year, "intelligent" design (sorry- I can't help but but that in quotes- it seems like such an oxymoron to call it intelligent!) is a hot button issue and I know the kids are going to want to talk about it. I think I can turn it into a teachable moment. But something I'm wondering about and can't seem to find any info on is whether other countries have this debate. What are the science education standards in Europe, Central and South America, Asia etc? I think it would be instructive to have such data. If anyone has any info, or knows where I can get it, I'd appreciate a response.
Thanks very much!
