There is an angle to the Foley Scandal that has gone unexplored: WTF is up with the parents in this situation? I'm not talking about the parents of the various pages here - they were indirectly victimized in this situation as well, and as I don't have kids I don't know how I'd react either. It's nice for me to sit here all high and mighty and say that I would have done everything in my power to prosecute if I knew my child was receiving dirty emails from an old man. But I was a teen once (not too long ago) and know I didn't tell my parents even close to everything I did or could downplay the things I did get caught doing. So I understand the denial or cluelessness from that side.
What I'm concerned about are those parents that took their kids and used them as pawns at Reynolds' press conference. What in the holy hell were they thinking, bringing their kids to stand behind a man who protected a child sexual predator? What a total lack of judgement. They were basically saying "My kids (who have no concept of what's going on) support covering up sexual misconduct with minors for the good of the Republican party! And I do too!" At least that's what I interpreted and I know I'm not alone.
And what if the press hadn't restrained themselves. Had gone ahead and said to themselves, "Well, if the parents don't care that they're exposing their kids to adult subject matter, then I don't care either." It's sick that people are so consumed with keeping their precious political power that they sacrifice their kids for it. I never want those people preaching morals and ethics to me ever again. And yes, it's sick that Reynolds actually took the pawns that were offered, but in my mind the parents are even worse.
