Louis Freeh will investigate the Capitol Hill page system and make recommendations for improvements. An Ethics Committee subcommittee will investigate improper conduct between lawmakers and minor pages. So who's going to investigate the cover-up and negligence by the GOP leadership that allowed Foley to prey on teenage boys for so long?
Oh yeah, the FBI's looking into it...
Meanwhile, Hastert's sticking around, which may be good for Dems politically but doesn't say much for the well-being of the Capitol Hill pages.
Still it's hard to overlook the value of gems like this...
Hastert:
I've talked to our members. Our members are supportive. I think that [resignation] is exactly what our opponents would like to have happen -- that I'd fold my tent and others would fold our tent and they would sweep the House.
When the base finds out who's feeding this monster, they're not going to be happy. The people who want to see this thing blow up are ABC News and a lot of Democratic operatives, people funded by [liberal activist] George Soros.
Kind of fits in with his "it's all a Democrat conspiracy" theory, eh?
Cheney:
I'm a huge Denny Hastert fan -- I think he's a great Speaker. And it makes no sense at all for him to think about stepping down.
Thanks, Dick, we're all Denny Hastert fans, too - as long as he stays in office.
We can only hope that someone, somewhere is looking out for the safety and security of the pages. Otherwise, it is like manna from heaven to have this lot in the same party as the faction who are looking to throw Hastert overboard if he won't walk the plank voluntarily.
