Based on
this memo apparently "culled from the captured Iraqi documents that the US found during Operation Iraqi Freedom:"
Top secret memoranda sent to Al-Kadisseiya Military branch No.2205 dated 04/03/2001 and to the Headquarters of Zee karr military branch No. 246 dated: 08/03/2001 that we were informed by another memo from Ali Unit military branch No. 154 dated: 10/03/2001. We urge you to inform the above mentioned unit of the names of people wishing to volunteer for suicide action to liberate Palestine and strike American interests according to the following below for your information and to let us know.
For some reason, I don't buy this. "We [Saddam] sent a memo on April 4th, and that memo was sent out again on August 3, and then another memo was sent on October 3rd." Why so many letters needing to be sent out? Sounds like nobody was interested and they kept pitching. Furthermore, what military commander, Iraqi, US, or whomever, writes a formal military order, or request, and says:
We urge you to inform the above mentioned unit of the names of people wishing to volunteer for suicide action to liberate Palestine and strike American interests according to the following below for your information and to let us know.
Hey guys, this is your ruthless leader here whom you all know requires 100% loyalty or, well...you know, I'll kill you, "asking" for suicide bomber recruitments and to - "get back to us," effectively. I would more quickly assume Saddam would just round up people and force them to do this, against threat of death to their family, then send out a national request form for suicide bombers.
Seriously, though, to get back at the argument, according to Captains Quarters, the document is dated March 17, 2001, 6 months before 9/11. And what was the reason we attacked Iraq? Because Saddam was searching for WMD's, no wait...because Saddam was in cahoots with Bin Laden, oh no wait still...to spread democracy, right?
If as Captain claims, this vindicates Bush's push for war after the fact, and our government had a hold of these documents, translated as well no doubt, then why not offer this evidence to the American people and the world? Honesly, if before this all happened, it was unearthed that Saddam had intentions of using suicide bombers to attack US interests, I would have minded far less going in and taking him out.
As is the case, this was never brought up and so this whole "memo business" sounds like an increasingly embarrased Right reaching for straws. And to bitch at the media for not reporting this? If Bush had this evidence to begin with since 2001 roundabouts, why didn't he present this?
As for the MSM, the story going around now with Plame has so much more evidence to support it so I'm not surprised people are following this line of reason instead of these "memos."
