A comment a couple of days ago caught the essence of Joe Liberman's perfidy, and betrayal of the Dems LONG before his announced "Independent " run Tuesday night.
Do you remember his adoring, even fawning and smiling fake "VP debate" with Cheney during campaign 2000? I like many of you was nonplussed and kind of disappointed about how it was a "lovefest" instead of a real discussion and differences and worthwhile positions not debated.
A skilled campaigner like JL, letting opportunity after opportunity to craft a Democratic message slip away? Why?.
What I learned since was that the polls that showed Gore slightly ahead before the "debate"were reversed after Lieberman's poor pitiful performance.
Now we know why. Here is the background.
Many folks commented at Lieberman's skill in debating Lamont....there he was fighting FOR something, namely his political life inside the Democratic Party as compared to a "less valuable " in his own eyes run for VP.
At that time I had forgotten or never realized that BOTH Lieberman and Cheney were intimately involved with the Plan for a New American Century schemes. Those included launching a war in the MidEast to reshape the politics there...and Cheney and Lieberman and the rest of the Neocon think tank groups were shilling for their plans even back in 1998. They both signed the letter to Clinton, they actively campaigned for a destabilizing and radicalizing offensive war of opportunity that Bush ultimately launched in March 2003. Clinton, and Gore had resisted because they were involved in Israel/Palestine peace making as a priority.
So the battle between Gore and Bush was handicapped by the element that Lieberman rather agreed and even wanted to see the Cheney neocon/Bush enabling attack on Iraq (which was his plan as well) implemented. He, JL didn't want to see Oslo/Camp David succeed, even strongly disagreed with the Gore alternative. He basically didn't mind losing to Cheney because he had a safe Senate seat to go back to,the two seat race at the same time JL strategy, remember?) And the chances those aggressive war plans would be carried out were very small with Gore, overwhelmingly top priority with Bush and Cheney.
So Lieberman threw the game,"tanked"if you were to talk about politics like horseracing or sports gambling fixing.
Only in our case it cost billions of dollars and thousands of lives . He was overdue to lose as he did in Connecticut on Tuesday. So how do we make this better known to all?
Betrayal of the Democratic Party Tuesday by the phoney "Independent" bid was replay of the earlier betrayal in 2000. It was a reminder of the great betrayal to create a war in Iraq that ultimately gets larger and larger to extend into Lebanon and Syria and Iran, leads to a huge occupation force and bloodshed for how many years? For what? and to whose narrow, selfish benefit?
Tell us, Joe. I want to know the truth
