Hot the off press:
In a pretty big shock to many following this race the most conservatice local paper, The Poughkeepsie Journal, has endorsed John Hall over Sue Kelly in Wednesday's Editorial Section.
The PoJo article can be found here and is entitled 'Hall has fresh ideas'.
[important quotes and analysis below]
While the article isn't the most glowing endorsement for Hall, it shows that even the most conservative of the local papers have come to the fact that Kelly is no longer the right choice and her failure to address her constituents and hid and run away from the media is the absolute wrong choice.
Some notable portions of this article are:
Hall is particularly strong on environmental issues. He makes the compelling and important point this nation needs to start weaning itself off oil and other fossil fuels; the government should start backing more alternative forms of energy.
The article also states:
[kelly] has been overly and relentlessly optimistic about the situation in Iraq, from the misguided reasons to go to war to the strategy employed thereafter.
The editorial finished with:
Hall has the intelligence and depth to make quite a difference in Congress if given the opportunity. If he doesn't veer too far to the left and shows a willingness to work with those across the political aisle, he could accomplish a lot for the district and bring fresh ideas to Washington. Voters should give him that chance.
With the last quotation, I can see PoJo's desire to express ill-will to 'the left', but the paper has taken a step in the right direction endorsing the right candidate over Sue Kelly who runs away from the media and hids from the public.
I can only wonder how the Kelly campaign can spin losing one of their most loyal (and conservative) endorsements.
