First off, I HATE talking about '08 right now.
I don't really care about who will run or what the outcomes will be for a Democratic victory then.
I'd prefer to start talking about it on 11/8.
But I realize today that the campaign begins on that day.
So, we win. Big deal.
I still don't think we should be talking about the who. We need to be talking about the WHAT.
Say we win (I honestly have mixed feelings on that one), we need to get the truth out there, advertising, talking points, whatever. The truth that since 1995 the Republican party has controlled the house and senate.
So, we need to be prepared to fight on the following issues:
*Iraq.
*Economic crash.
*Health care.
*Lack of jobs.
These are the issues that can come back and bite us in '08. Because it "is the Democrat's fault".
But it won't be the Democratic Party's fault.
10 years of Republican rule of the house and senate lead us to where we are. 6 years of Republican Presidential rule brought us to this.
What about Bill Clinton? President Clinton thought that by being a politician, he could seek compromises from the Republican Legislative branch. The extremist cabal of Republicans that took over lied, deceived and began the process of destroying the country.
So, here's where you come in. I'm going to post four comments with the title "Issue: xyz". Below each of them, please discuss how we frame it given our progressive and humane values, what the R's did historically, and where we can take it from there.
Please add your own issues using the same format.
It all begins in 6 days.
We are the difference.
(If this doesn't work, I'll set up a wiki to get it going)
