Hi, DailyKos friends! I haven't posted since before Labor Day since I took the position of 4th Congressional District Coordinator for Ned Lamont, but I'm jumping in with just 4 days left to encourage all of you within driving/train distance from CT to
join us on Saturday to participate in one of the most important and FUN ways you can help Ned Lamont reach victory - a Knock and Rock With
Black 47 in Stamford on Saturday!
A Knock and Rock is a fun grassroots campaign event -- a giant door-to-door canvass followed by a party and live performance by Irish-American anti-war rockers Black 47. Larry Kirwan, Black 47's lead singer, will join us in canvassing, and Ned Lamont will join us for our party and rally in the afternoon. Stamford is an easy train ride from New York City -- let's turn this into a great DailyKos reunion! More info below the jump.
The Knock
We're aiming to
blanket the streets of Stamford with Ned Lamont supporters who will share his positive vision with Stamford voters, many of whom are still undecided. We hear a lot about Bloomberg's mercenary field army, but with your help the city of Stamford will see nothing but Ned supporters this weekend! There are still thousands of undecided voters out there, and when we get a chance to talk with undecideds, they almost always break for us. The more people who Knock and Rock with us on Saturday, the closer we come to victory.
The Rock: Black 47
Black 47 has been playing to packed houses in Boston and New York and huge crowds at Irish festivals around the country since the early 90's. Larry Kirwan, the lead singer and songwriter, is an author, political activist, and longtime friend of our own Tessa. The band have been outspoken critics of the Bush administration and the war in Iraq.
If you've never seen Black 47, you can get a sense of their energy by
watching their network TV debut on David Letterman. You can also watch the video for one of their popular singles,
Funky Ceili.
These guys are the real deal, with great talent, amazing energy, and good hearts. Larry Kirwan knows Ned and is passionate about ending the war. In fact, Larry not only agreed to come up to Stamford and play for us, but he'll also be out canvassing door-to-door in Stamford neighborhoods with us! Black 47 agreed to play for our Knock and Rock even though they already had a huge gig on their schedule for Saturday night..which they'll now do after canvassing and playing our Knock and Rock in the afternoon.
How It Works
At 10:00 AM and 11:30 AM, canvassing teams will leave from Stamford Democratic Headquarters at 840 East Main Street.
(We're close to the Metro-North station in Stamford, so let us know if you need a ride from the train.) If it's your first time canvassing, don't worry! You'll be paired up with a partner and will be trained. We'll provide detailed maps, walk lists, and literature about Ned and the Democratic ticket. Once you're finished with your canvassing, you'll turn in your completed walk list and head over to the party with Black 47! The band will begin playing at 3:00.
How You Can Help
Spread the word!! Tell your friends and other social networks. And remember, if you can't make it to Stamford, we'll be busy at every Ned Lamont field office and satellite phone banking locations all around the state, so make sure you make this last Saturday count!
RSVP today and please help to spread the word to others if you can't make it!
I know nearly all of us here on DailyKos consider this a must-win race after all we've put into it (including crazy people like me who turned their lives around to work for Ned's victory round the clock!)
After all this talk, all this donating, all this passionate intensity -- it all comes down to this weekend. If you're within driving distance and you're not already working for a campaign, GET UP HERE. Don't regret not doing more - just do it.
We've got the momentum. We've got the passionate intensity. We've got the issues on our side. This thing is winnable if our people-power really delivers -- it's all up to you.
Maura Keaney is the 4th Congressional District Coordinator for Ned Lamont for Senate.
