I did a search and didn't see this posted here yet. Tim and David must be busy, so I'll summarize what has been posted about today's campaign event at a Hartford senior center. As the Stand Up For Change bus arrived, it was surrounded by a mob of LieberKids who kept chanting "Joe, Joe, Joe". They blocked the doors to the bus so Ned could not get off. They also apparently blocked the entrance to the senior center itself so that seniors who wanted to come see Ned had trouble. Details at the offical
blog
According to Sirota, who was there:
I must say, it is quite a sight to see young people voiciferously cheer on a broken-down career politician who has used his position to insist that other young people continue to be killed and maimed in a war based on lies. And though I had heard a lot about Joe Lieberman small band of paid thugs from the primary, seeing it up close today was, in a word, frightening.
The moment the bus door opened today at the Hartford senior center at this morning's first bus tour event, the wild-eyed group of Lieberthugs surrounded and screamed at Ned as he met with seniors. The group was pathetically small, although admittedly loud. They didn't scream anything other than the word "Joe" - they didn't chant about the war or any other issue. Just "Joe."
In the comments of that thread, State Rep Evelyn Mantilla added her eyewitness report. She helped set up the Lamont campaign event.
The actions of the Lieberman "volunteers" created an environment of intimidation and frankly just downright disturbed the peace of the residents. The crowd created such a tight space that they blocked the entrance to the building and any resident who wanted to get through to Ned, or just leave the building, had to push their way through or put up with getting pushed around themselves.
I am appalled. If they felt they had to make an appearance, they can march with their signs and chant their message all they want... but this was crossing the line. The lack of respect for these folks was beyond anything I've ever seen. These are SENIORS... this was not a rally... it was a simple meet and greet. I can't begin to describe the outrage I feel.
The good news is that I've spoken with a few already and they are clear as to who caused the disturbance. I will personally be out there making sure they come out to vote for Ned.
Rumors are that there is video and it may make the evening news. It better!
So... we have $387,000 of unaccounted petty cash out on the streets and a band of Lieberman goons causing public disturbances at Lamont events (possibly even breaking the law in the process). If I were a reporter, I'd be connecting the dots so fast I might break my wrist.
Lieberman has become a disgrace of a politician. Win or lose the election next week, he is a defeated man. A loser. Though... you can't help but think what might have been if he'd used just an ounce of this maliciousness during the 2000 campaign.
Come on fellow Nutmeggers. We must elect Ned Lamont!!
