I am just a nuts and bolts kinda guy.
Political speeches to me are somewhere between fingernails on a chalkboard and hip hop music.
So I am interested in how the local county parties can contribute to the effort in the most effective way.
Thing that worked in the 2004 season are definately not as effective this election cycle. Phone banks are hampered by the widespread use of caller id. Even intelligent dialers are not as sensitive to the parties answering as we need for a seamless conversation with our target audience.
I think we may need to get back to the ward leader as a central source of voter identification and contact. But that means we must learn to love our volunteers at a level that we are not willing to do up to now.
Volunteer programs need a focus like never before and we can't continue to rely on only the enthusiasm of our volunteers to be the sole source of reward.
Defining the volunteer activities clearly and having shifts of moderate duration will go a long way towards helping.
