As we come into the final stretch of the mid-term elections, I think it is important to remind people who the party of fiscal responsibility is. Perhaps the biggest con-job in the history of American politics has been the Republican's labelling of the Democrats as the spend, spend party of fiscal irresponsibility. The facts though, tell a different story.
No Congress has helped itself to the public trough more than the Republican swines of the greedy 109th. This isn't just a comparison of one pig being slightly more fat than the other pigs. The Republicans have increased earmark spending by nearly 2000% since they took over Congress from the Democrats in the early 1990's. This isn't comparing a slightly fatter pig to a little thinner pig, this is comparing a
54 pound pig to a 1400 pound pig. Any comparison that Republicans can make to Democrats concerning pork spending is ludicrous.
Next up, the deficit. When faced with the absurd deficit figures of the last six years Republicans are likely to bring up the recently touted 7 percent deficit projection bragged about by Bush. WooHoo! Break out the Champagne. What they won't tell you is that under Bush's leadership and our Republican spend, spend Congress the deficit has ballooned over 250 percent since Clinton left office. Republican fiscal leadership took us from a 200+ billion dollar surplus under Clinton to a 300+ billion dollar deficit in just six years.
The facts are that both in spending and fiscal reponsiblity the Republicans get trounced by Democrats at both the Congressional and Administration level. If anyone is truly concerned in voting for the party of fiscal responsibilty there is certainly no question about what party they should vote for, and it isn't the Greedy Old Party.
