Even in the -- in my view, still unlikely -- event the Dems actually get control of one or both houses of Congress,
they are still playing the Bush / Cheney game ... especially the Washington Dems, of which Howard Dean has sadly become one ...
They are operating within a framework of assumptions completely generated and monitored by the corporate / Christian alliance that has dominated American political and media life since the summer of 2000 ...
As a result, they have no agenda of their own ... not even the whisper of an analysis of -- let alone plan of action for dealing with -- the incredibly unstable situation both at home and abroad ...
Indeed, unless they actually start thinking in new ways -- which seems highly dubious to me, given everything we've seen so far --
they are going to be completely vulnerable to, and outfoxed by, the obvious Bush plan to blame EVERYTHING on them ...
"Things were really starting to turn around in Iraq until the 'appease the terrorists' Dems seized control of the House a/o Senate, and then everything turned to shit" ...
Maybe this qvatch doesn't go over in the country any more -- about fucking time -- but it still completely dominates the discourse in Washington ...
So don't expect anything to get better in any issue area in any substantive way even IF the Dems win, which I STILL don't fully believe ...
given a) the structural advantages of incumbents, especially in the House ... b) their own lack of ideas / principles / balls ... and c) judicially-sanctioned massive and consistent Republican corruption of all sorts re anything having to do with elections ...
The mess will continue, and, if Bush Co succeeds in somehow -- amazingly -- pinning the blame for their disasters on the Dems, it will get even worse ... seriously ...
