Re: Campaign 2006 for Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts
Fred Head, Candidate for Public Comptroller of Public Accounts issued the following statement today.
* "My opponent Susan Combs is lying in her TV Ad when she says, "As a
small business owner for over 26 years, I've always met a payroll." Her
Personal Financial Statement shows no business ownership (Please see the two attached sheets from Combs' statement verifying no such ownership). In the alternative, Susan Combs has apparently lied in her Personal Financial Statement by failing to list the ownership of the business to which she refers in her TV Ad."
* "My opponent Susan Combs has placed a large campaign sign on the plant
site property owned by Pilgrims Pride Corporation in Titus County, near
Pittsburg, Texas (Please see attached photograph). This may amount to a
third degree felony (Please see attached copy of Chapter 253, Article
253.094 of the Texas Election Code); but at the very least, reflects the
strong support being given Susan Combs by Bo Pilgrim, who, as many
Texans will recall, is infamous for passing out $10,000.00 checks to Texas
State Senators on the Senate Floor."
* "My opponent Susan Combs has failed to fulfill one of the important
duties of her present office of Agriculture Commissioner by failing to
cause the gas pumps at the Athens, Texas Brookshire Grocery Store to be calibrated within the four year time set by Texas Law. (Please see photographs and a copy of Agriculture Code Chapter 13 attached). The pump in the picture and all other pumps at the store were last calibrated in the fourth quarter of 2001, one year past the time required by law.
* "My opponent Susan Combs spent over $400,000.00 in State Funds on
what she calls the "Think Bright" Program and sought photo opportunities
in September 2006 to promote herself through this ridiculous expenditure of state funds (Please see attached news article from 9/1/06 Tyler Morning Telegraph, a letter from my office to Combs requesting financial documents regarding the cost of the "Think Bright" Program, a cover letter from Combs' Employee David R. Gipson furnishing me the financial information, financial compilations we put together from the records obtained from David R. Gipson, a letter from my office to Combs asking for copies of the materials Combs bought for the "Think Bright" Program and a list of those to whom the material was delivered and a Letter from David R. Gipson of Combs' Office denying our request for copies of the items bought with the funds above mentioned and the information regarding those to whom the materials were delivered."
The fact that Susan Combs is a strong supporter of Rick Perry's Trans-Texas Corridor Toll Road and the National Animal Identification Program are also remarkable indicators of just how far out of step Susan Combs is with the views of the farm and ranch families of Texas she is supposed to be standing up for, but is not, in her present job with the Texas Department of Agriculture.
"I believe these interesting points mentioned above concerning Susan Combs will be of interest to Texas Voters and will help Voters decide how to cast their votes on November 7th."

Ag Commissioner Delivers 'Bright' Message To Students
By BETTY WATERS
Staff Writer
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs urged a class of fourth-graders to "think bright" during a visit to Dixie Elementary School, part of a statewide tour emphasising good nutrition.
The Texas Department of Agriculture's "Think Bright" probram encourages children to eat more healthy foods -- especially fresh fruits and vegetables which come in bright grees, reds, yellows and purples....
She told the Tyler youngsters that they are among the first of 2.1 million Texas elementary students to receive bright green "Think Bright" wristbands. Trucks loaded with the wristbands began rolling Thursday and Ms. Combs said the bracelents wiil be distributed to every kindergarten thorugh fifth grade student on Friday, Tuesday and Wednesday."
Combs timed the roll-out of the "Think Bright" program to benefit her in her race for Comptroller of Public Accounts. Under Texas Law, no materials are to be distributed to school children unless they are part of the approved Curriculum. The "Think Bright" program is not part of Texas's approved Curriculum. Susan Combs appears to have misused taxpayers money to fund production and distribution of materials which supports her campaign for public office.
Texas Agriculture Commissioner Susan Combs, currently running for Texas Comptroller of Public Accounts used taxpayers money to distribute materials to school children which was not on the approved school curriculum. Here are there records of those expenditures released to Fred Head under the Freedom of Information Act.
Susan Combs has failed to protect the consumers of Texas while Agriculture Commissioner. She brags of cutting back on her "departmental budget" but fails to mention the failure of her department to inspect the calibration stickers on gas pumps and grocery store scales. Currently gas pumps only have to be inspected every four years in Texas. However, many stickers are out of date.
