One thing I don't get is all of the gushing over Rick Santorum from figures on the right. David Brooks makes it sound like we lost a modern day Mother Cabrini and that the poor had no better ally than he. Kathy Jean Lopez sounds like the Republic won't survive without him. Jack Kelly wrote that Santorum sounded "Churchillian" on the campaign trail. This one I actually laughed out loud at,trying to imagine Winston citing Tolkein during WWII (yes, I know, I know, anachronism). Last night, Bill Bennet was suggesting he run for president. We all tend to rally around our fallen heroes, but seriously, when was the last time you saw Democrats gushing over a person like this?
We really didn't mourn over Cuomo, Daschle, Richards, Sasser, Rosetnkowki or Tom Foley, the Speaker of the House. What makes him so special to them? If I were a Republican, I would appreciate people like Dick Lugar, John McCain, Lindsay Grahm and Orin Hatch way more than Santorum. I just don't get it, do you?
