In today's press conference President Bush he clearly and undeniably recognized and acknowledged the will of the people based on this election cycle. He defended his positions on Iraq, echoed Harry Reid's comments from yesterday concerning the need to work together and be uniters not dividers, and also highlighted how both sides have their principles and both will likely continue to stand up for those principles. Very Presidential, IMHO.
By replacing Donald Rumsfeld he is clearly pushing to find more common ground in the Iraq war. It will be interesting to see how the Democrats react to this positive and long overdue change as called for by Democrats of all stripes.
He pledges to work with the Democrats to find common ground and to move forward in a positive way in Iraq. He defended his decisions and humbly acknowledged the message that had been sent by the election on this topic, but stressed that he intended to not leave the battlefield to our enemies.
So it seems that the Democrats finally have to decide whether they actually want us to win this war rather than having the advantage of being able to sit back and throw pot shots. It will be interesting to see how they will engage in the process given the rhetoric that they have been putting forth forth for years in the war on terror.
As active participants will they step up and actually support positions that have a chance of actually defeating the enemy or will they continue to try and put their collective heads in the sand?
A new day has dawned. Let us work together to guide the country through the trying times that we find ourselves in on a daily basis.
