The DLCC won 9 new majorities and an estimated net gain of 275 seats including over 60 seats in the New Hampshire House and 20 seats in the Minnesota House. Democrats now control the majority of state legislative chambers for the first time since 2000.
This is more than a good night for Democrats. This is a four-year winning streak at the state legislative level. We've brought our net gains to 15 state legislative chambers pushed to Democratic control over two cycles.
Winning at the state legislative level sets the foundation for long-term Democratic success, because of redistricting and growing the "farm team" of future leaders.

This means:
We're putting Democrats in a strong position for redistricting. Winning at the state legislative level is the only way to make sure Democrats will have a seat at the table when district lines are cut and ensure competitive districts. Our wins in the Wisconsin Senate and the Michigan House and gains in the Pennsylvania House and Ohio House are important to redistricting. We also won the Indiana House, preventing a potential Republican mid-decade redistricting that could make the three newly-Democratic U.S. House seats unwinnable for Democrats.
We're showing that Democrats can win--anywhere. We're continuing to make gains at the local level in traditionally "red" states, adding this cycle's gains in Indiana, New Hampshire, and Iowa to last cycle's wins in North Carolina, Montana, and Colorado.
We're standing up for Democratic values at home. State legislatures make more policy decisions that affect citizens' daily lives, like ensuring access to a quality education and healthcare. This role is more important now, since the Republican congress has been cutting funding.
