With the official word coming out this evening that Jim Webb has defeated Incumbent Senator George Allen of Virginia, we can now breath easily and pump our fists in the air. For, on November 7, 2006, the Republican party met a well-deserved and painful death. May the corpse rot and the maggots feast with pleasure.
Despite the negative ads and pathetic ramblings from talk show hosts like Sean Hannity, Bill O'Reilly, Laura Ingraham, and Rush "where's my viagra" Limbaugh, the American people, in a true testament to our Democracy, spoke above the loud, fear-mongering voices, and chose a new direction for our country.
Conservative blogs and pundits throughout this nation can make all the excuses they want.
They can whine about Nancy Pelosi spearheading a "San Francisco Liberal" agenda in the house.
They can lie how a Democratic victory signals a victory for the terrorists.
Or, they can say how this loss helps them in the long run.
Wrong, wrong, and dead wrong.
Under the leadership of the 109th Congress, the United States of America has turned into a playpen for Corrupt politcians, war-mongering pigs, theocratic activists, and Constitutional rapists.
How can there not be a change?
President Bush likes to think of himself as this tough cowboy in the model of John Wayne. Staying the course as the facts indicate that he shouldn't.
Now, he has to swallow his pride and dump the cowboy charade, and work together with the Democratic party, in order to bring our troops home and restore are once solid reputation throughout the world.
Do I buy that sentiment? Not really.
You can tell by his press conference that he isn't too excited about working with the Democrats. He relishes his role as "the Decider." And, of course, his Bushphiles want him to continue on with being a retarded emperor, rather than President of the United States.
I'll be honest, I'm not excited with how Howard Dean spearheaded the project of winning this election. He went with Conservatives in some races, leaving a genuine Democrat like Ned Lamont to languish in defeat.
The New Democrat Movement mentality is killing the Democratic party. Yet, there's no sense of urgency amongst liberals in that party who'll one day be extinct if people like Howard Dean and Rahm Emmanuel don't get their shit together and embrace the liberal hertiage of the Democratic party. Yes, we do need some Conservatives, but this blanket disdain for liberal ideals is really distressing.
Nonetheless, the days of "business as usual" are over.
The Republican Revolution has faded into obscurity and George Bush has been castrated politically by the tsumani that was American Democracy.
